John Maloy Wins Superathalon
WCBP John Maloy: Superathelete
Wildwood Crest lifeguard John Maloy has been around the Cape May Beach Patrol Superathlon nearly his whole life, as a very interested spectator.
Maloy finally got to compete in the annual sprint triathlon for area lifeguards for the first time Monday, and he rallied in the final quarter-mile swim leg to win in 41 minutes, 20 seconds. Maloy, the two-time defending South Jersey Lifeguard swim champion, overtook leader Shane McGrath of Avalon. Maloy took a 25-yard lead in the water at the end before sprinting to the finish line at Cannone beach.
